MAGICAL DISASTER (work in progress)
mAGICAL DISASTER
I had an idea of making an environment for a friendly witch in a slightly stylized house. As I continued working on it, I also decided to do a lighting change for the environment.
Programs: Maya, Photoshop, Substance Painter, Nuke
Responsible for: All aspects. Some models acquired online.
Breakdown
brainstorming and concept
I first started out by brainstorming the concept and what I wanted to do for this project. I really wanted to explore lighting changes and I knew that I want to do something magical. So I gathered concept art and references that corresponds to what I want.
Modeling and uving
I then modeled most of the assets in the environment except for some which I grabbed from online: the plants, telescope, and candles. I then UVed all the assets.
object references
I then gathered more references for the material of the objects in the scene.
Texturing and Look development
I then started texturing all the objects. After I was done, I brought the maps into Maya Arnold for look development. Here are all my maps and hypershade settings!
Lighting and compositing
I worked on my warm lighting and my fantastical lighting. I made sure to render out the AOVs like the zdepth and I made another render layer with atmospheric volume and a spotlight to achieve the god rays in Nuke. After that, I composited everything in Nuke.
